Memory Loss

by MEQ, Nov 07, 2007 01:27AM
My father had open heart surgery over a year ago and is now taking Lipitor, Verapamil, Atenolol, and Niaspan ER.  He has been experiencing short term memory loss (e.g. can't remember something said or done or where he put something the day or so before) and longer term memory loss (what he did a few months ago) and some memories from before the surgery are totally gone.  We know memory loss is a possible side effect directly following the surgery, but is a there a link between heart surgery and memory loss that occurs more than a year later or is there a link between memory loss and the medications he is taking?  Should he expect to get his memories back that seem to be totally gone?
