Memory problems

Hi,

I have a good memory for facts, but I have trouble remembering events that happened in my life, even if they happened a week ago. Some things I'll remember, especially if I was feeling a strong emotion at the time, but otherwise I will forget things like what I ate, what I did during the day, etc. I have very few memories about my childhood, although I have a few random memories (these are usually very short; they're more like short impressions of that event). I also have trouble remembering names and new faces. I can look up at someone, look away for a second, and when I look back I won't recognize the person. I have less trouble with Hispanic faces, but I have trouble with everyone else.

It hasn't negatively affected my family life, because I see everyone all the time. But at work sometimes I have trouble because I forget the face and name of the person that I need to talk to . Mostly, I can start recognizing people if I see them often, but if I'm at a store, and I see a new cashier, then I won't be able to describe her/him as soon as I leave. Does someone know what might be wrong with me?
