Mental Breakdown

Mental Breakdown

Yesterday my girlfriend had a mental breakdown. She starting throwing stuff to the ground and breaking them. Once she cooled down I tried to talk to her, but it seem as if she couldn't finish or have a normal conversation without wondering out and talking about how everything aligns and how everything has a mathematical reason. Kinda like the movie"The Number 23". My girlfriend's birthday was yesterday, today she was suppose to go to Texas for a wedding, next week she was suppose to go work in Orlando for 6 months and after that she will go to Baltimore for a year. A couple of years ago she worked in Orlando for  6 months in an internship and she got really depressed because she felt alone. Maybe the fear of being alone frightens her and with all the anxiety from her birthday and her cousin's wedding she had a breakdown.

This is all so new to everyone, she is a strong confident woman and she has never done this before. She was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and started on therapy and meds. All I want to know is what she might have, what meds she might be taking and how can I help her.

I'm sure the psych hosp will come up with a good diagnosis and proper treatment.
Depression and anxiety can have symptoms you described, the anxiety builds to such a point that a mental 'break' occurs.  She  may need help in controlling the anxiety so it doesn't build to this point again, learning how to indentify when it begins and what to do to diffuse it.
Be with her and support her and comfort her as best you can and when she leaves the hospital help see that she follows the doctors iinstructions.
