Migrain Headache

by Thomas-Rudman, Jun 07, 1998 12:00AM
My wife suffers from migrain headaches,6 to 8 a month on average. She has
used imitrex up until the availability of the Drug Zomig. She takes 1 2.5mg
tablet for each headache. Our question to your doctors would be is it safe
to take 6 to 8 of these 2.5mg tablets a month. They do seem to work well
on eliminiation her headache, and up to this time she has experienced no
adverse side effects. Our family doctor has prescribed both medications
for her. Thanks for any advise or help you can provide.

Dear Thomas:
The frequency of your wife's migraine headaches is little bit higher than the more typical frequency of migraines.
Based on your story I would suggest that she continues to take either Zomig OR Imitrex fro the headache, but she may benefit from  the so called preventative treatment such as Propranolol (inderal) or Verapamil among others in order to decrease the frequency of headaches.
Therefore, I would suggest that she consults with  her Neurologist or one of our Headache specialists at the Cleveland Clinic by calling 1 800 CCF CARE.
Good luck
