Migraine. Thalamic stroke. Which is the cause?

I have a history of migraine, from classic with aura for two of my highschool years to transformed (no aura) beginning in midlife. I was referred to a neurologist when the new migraines - strictly on my right side - became severe and continuous. After trials of half a dozen preventives, we settled on lisinopril as the most effective for me. Concerned about my lower response to pin-***** on my left side, my neurologist sent me for a vascular MRI. results indicate

I do not think that the infarct caused the migraines. The infarct may have been secondary to the migraine, or possibly to other causes. The most common reasons for a lacunar infarct are hypertension and diabetes.

It certainly is possible for that cause and effect to go in either direction--I would recommend viewing a site abotu thalamic stroke and central pain syndrome--www.painonline.org, and/or www.centralpain.org--wealth of good information there.
