Our son is a 10 years old boy diagnosed for hydrocephalusHydrocephalus because a intraventricular bleeding at 7 days of age. He was a prematurePremature ejaculation Premature infant (35 weeks) twin brother that born through a C-Section surgery on march 9th in 1997. He got a shuntCyanotic heart disease Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (tips) valve at 26 days of age with two revisions after that, the firstFirst progesterone mc10 First progesterone mc5 First-progesterone vgs 100 First-progesterone vgs 200 First-progesterone vgs 25 First-progesterone vgs 400 First-progesterone vgs 50 First-testosterone First-testosterone mc with 5 years (2002) and the second with 6 years (2003) of age. He is a neurological, phisical and mentalMental retardation Mental status testsnormalNormal saline flush kid who is attending the 5th grade of elementary school with excellent grades. He has suffered of headaches from time to time until three month ago when he started to suffer headaches every four to nine days accompained with long periods of letargy and sleepiness. After those periods he feels better, the headache dissapear and he retake his normal activities. Following his neurosurgeon instructions we have performed a different examinations such as CT Scan, oftalmologic evaluation, MRI and blood test with normal results on every test. The CT-Scan showed something that we ever have known regarding his slit ventricles and the MRI showed a small venous angioma issues that we were told is something not to worry about. Doctors are now orientiented to migraine because his slit ventricles syndrome however we are still thinking in a shunt malfuction because our experience through the years an the prior shunt revisions. Should we go to get a second opinion?
My daighter who is nearly 16 also has the same problem. We started with headaches and they found that she needed her tube replaced. Since then they have seen a slight increase in her ventricles and now we have vision problems, headaches, sleepiness, etc. We went back in and her shunt tap showed that she had a problems. He went in and he came back and said the shunt is working fine. He has suggested the same thing. Going in with an ICP monitor and then cutting apart her skull. We to are trying to figure out what to do. We are going to get another opinion before we let them do that. We are also seeing an eye doctor and ENT to see if we can find any other problems. So yes I think you should. We have never had problems until 3 weeks ago when we started the first surgery
