Migraine or Mini Stroke

by Tazman007, May 29, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
I had a really scary experience last night and i am worried as to what it was:

I woke up at 1am with a sharp pain going from the back of my right eye to the back of my neck. It was throbbing. After a couple of minutes i stated feeling sick. I decided to take some sendol, so i went down stairs, was feeling a bit dizzy. I started running the tap for water and suddenly my vision become all wierd, like lots of different spots moving all over the place. I grabbed my glass of water and tried to make my way upstairs, but my vision became worse and i became very dizzy, so much so i nealt on the floor and nearly passed out. I managed to make it upstairs and back into bed, drank some water and took the tablets. Almost immediately after drinking the water (i know this was nothing to do with the tablets) the pain stopped. But my dizzyness and vision did not improve and i started sweating, i felt really cold but my arms were hot. About 2-3 mins later these symptons started to improve. My vision returned to normal and the sweating stopped. I still felt dizzy though. i managed to fall asleep but woke up around 3am and my left leg and arm felt tingly and slightly numb, like if you sit on your hand for ages. This stayed for about 3 hours. In the morning i went and saw the doctor, he examined me and said it was a migrain.

I have never had one before and after doing research i am worried i have had a mini stroke. I feel alot better now but i still feel a bit week and my left arm is still not 100% back to normal. Is this expected in a migrain?

Many thanks

First of all that's definitely the kind of thing you want to get checked out with a Dr.  If it was a stroke you want to make sure you get it checked out. If it was a migraine you should try vitamins that help prevent so they don't come back. It can't hurt.  Butterbur is a big one.  Its the main ingredient in Migravent.  They say staying on it for a few months can stop migraines from coming all together.  Check out www.migravent.com
Im curious what happens with it. Let me know.
