Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.
The mainstay of the migraine treatment is always to identify the triggering factors and to avoid them. Other factors that may induce your migraine attack may be pills, stress or depression, bright lights, loud noise and traveling. Triggering factors could be different foods such as cheese, chocolate, alcohol and even few fruits. I would suggest careful record of events that have proceeded with the attack and avoid those factors. In addition, try to rest in a dark & quiet room, meditate, have a balanced diet and avoid taking unnecessary drugs. There are few medicines like triptans and NSAID pain killers advised by doctors for symptomatic relief. Additionally, calcium channel blockers (flunarazine) and beta blockers can also be prescribed by doctor. Even then if you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders by clinically examine you & ordering MRI or CT scan here that may be the main reasons of your migraine attacks and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!
I forgot to add that if you've never had a migraine before, and this is the worst headache you've had in your life, you should forthwith go to the ER emergency room, because it can indicate a serious circulatory problem, life-threatening...and even if it isn't that, it's the quickest way to be seen today and get some migraine medicine.
Dear Madhavj,
If you are in the United States, you can go to a health food store and ask if they have "Migra-off," or something like that, and anyhow, they'll have bottles of supplements that can help a migraine. Now, that is an immediate short-term solution. But what you really MUST do is go to a physician, they have great meds for it. Or you can go to a county health department if you don't have a doc or funds or insurance, you can go as a walk-in today and be seen by a physician today, too. He can prescribe you excellent migraine medicines. In the meantime, drink some water, take some aspirin or alkaseltzer, close the blinds, make the room you're in completely quiet, lay down and put a pillow over your head, and rest until it passes.
