Migraines and Low Blood Pressure

Migraines and Low Blood Pressure

I am a 35 year old white female. I recently went to my family doctor due to headaches that I am sure are migraine. I had a visual aura (flashing lights in right visual field), then loss of vision on that same side. The headache began approximately 45 minutes after the aura stopped. I vomitted and was "out of commission" for about 4 hours. I have had two of these in three weeks. I generally do not have headaches, but did have a similar episode about 13 years ago and went to the ER where I was not treated but told I had a "classic migraine" and to go to my doctor if I had another. Also in the last four weeks I have had low blood pressure (dizzy, nasea, ringing in ears, running into door frames on right side, tunnel vision). This occurs primarily when changing position. I am a health person overall. I'm 5'7" and weigh 125 lbs. There is heart disease in my family on both sides...cancer as well. My husband also believes that I've had "word finding" problems and have been increasingly forgetful. I attribute this to being the mother of 2 and 3 year old girls. I should mention that I had acute carbon monoxide poisoning from a malfunctioning furnace about 15 years ago...don't know if that even matters. Anyway, my doctor ordered an echo and MRI as well as CBC and Comprehensive metabolic panel. Any insight/suggestions will be very appreciated!

Hi,
After going through history, it appears that you are having Migraine like symptoms. But the association of other symptoms like dizziness, nausea, ringing in ears etc suggests some irregularity in Blood pressure control. Hence to evaluate the condition it is important to do an ECHO and MRI with other investigations.

Thanks. Do you know what possible cause they may be looking for...a know a brain tumor is quite unlikely. Anything else that could cause these symptoms?

The clinical presentation of headache associated with aura in your case is highly suggestive of a migraine attack.  On the other hand, your other symptoms of dizziness, nausea, etc. occuring when "changing position" might be related to orthostatic hypotension.  Consult your cardiologist to properly assess these symptoms.
