Well, try visiting a rheumatologist for your joints. Also, in the area Louis brought up, your regular doc needs to check your blood sugars to make sure no diabetes is going on, and also if your legs are swollen up, your regular doc should have noticed that, it suggests other circulatory type problems. If none of these things sounds helpful, then feel free to give us more details about other health issues and medical diagnostic tests like your MRI that have been done, otherwise we don't have enough of a picture to hazard a even a fair guess.

Sounds like a type of neuropathy, the kind where a nerve in the lower back is being pinched, and thus the sensation in legs is compromised, misfiring. Also could be a mineral deficiency, which lack of certain ones will cause spasming. If the feet and calves are in trouble, it's hard to walk with any regular gait. If you'll see a regular doc, he can draw blood to see what the vitamin and mineral numbers look like, and also he can do a simple neuro type exam in his office and see if the lower back is inflammed or stiff or other indicators that a nerve might be in trouble there. That doc can also refer you to a specialist to do more involved investigations of the lower body nerve situation. Usually treatment consists of, depending on what it is, mineral supplements for deficiency, or physical therapy, medicine, maybe a back brace for nerve problems.
