Multiple CVAs

My husband is 55 yrs. old.  He has suffered at least seven strokes.  The first in 1998, next in 2004, three in 2006 and two this year and I'm certain some have been insignificant and gone undiagnosed.  Some have occurred without elevated BP and sometimes with INR at therpeutic (sic) level.  I suspicion these episodes may be occurring because of radiation necrosis.  In 1977, he was diagnosed with a microglioma.  The tumor was removed.  He was treated with what we were told was the maximum allowance of radiation, chemotherapy (Cytoxin and Vinicristine) and eventually, a chemo drug they referred to as CNS.  Am I on the right track with my suspicions?  Is there anything possible to prevent this events or are we just waiting for the big bang?  We feel as if we're just waiting on a time bomb.  Each episode chips away just a little more of him.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

Radiotherapy can lead to vessel damage and ischemic strokes. But in your husband's case the therapy was given way back (1977). I am sure that post therapy, number of Brain MRIs must have been done. Were there any findings, which could have suggested a recurrence at the primary site?

At the same time we should not forget other common causes of recurrent stroke (like thrombosis, embolic vascular occlusion, cardioembolic causes, hypercoagulation disorders, vasculitis, subarachnoid vasospasm and drugs.Complete evaluation is required to exactly know the cause of recurrent strokes.
