Multiple Sclerosis, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

With the advanced technology available today such as MRI, CT scans how can several different radiologists have varying opinions while viewing the same films?  My husband has been treated for multiple sclerosis for years although his MRI scans reveal "non-specific white matter disease".  Symptoms similar to normal pressure hydrocephalus and after a shunt was finally done the trigeminal neuralgia pain and multiple sclerosis symptoms
have disappeared.  Is it possible that the untreated hydrocephalus was the cause of the trigeminal neuralgia and the radiologist has "labelled" the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis since there was a history in the medical records?

Also, a cerebral spinal fluid test revealed O Olig Bands which says it was "a negative result". Is this enough to
believe that multiple sclerosis is not the correct diagnosis?

Hi...I wish I had an answer for u, but many times conditions with similar symptoms do get misdx'd.....My condition many times is considered an incidential finding as most drs do not get much on it during med school and what is  taught is such old info that it does not help those of us with the condition.

It would seem ur DH's hydro was the issue since he is seeing benefits of the shunt.Keep in mind if symptoms start to reappear, that shunts can malfunction...look to the shunt first b4 u fall for it being something else on top of this.

I pray this is the last of his symptoms and his shunt works well for yrs to come.
