Muscle twitch

Muscle twitch

Hi.
I have had a muscle twitch under my right pectoral muscle for about 2 days.
What can cause this?
I am an active athlete and don't notice any weakness in that area.
(I have had a slight tear in my right rotator cuff and don't know if this is related.)

Thanks.

Muscle twitches are a common phenomenon that are often seen in normal individuals after exercise, with physical or emotional stress, as part of a syndrome called benign fasciculation syndrome and may be caused by a wide variety of other problems such as electrolyte abnormalities, thyroid disease, and nerve root compression just to name a few.  In the setting of progressive weakness and muscle wasting, they can also be part of more serious neurological diseases such as ALS. Although I don't think that it's really related to the rotator cuff tear, it can certainly be caused by strething of the pec muscle or local trauma during workouts or athletic endeavors. If that's the case, it should go away on its own in a few days.  But sometimes can last longer depending on the cause. Would just observe at this time. GOod luck.

Hi
I've been having muscle twitches for 5 months. It started in my eye then progressed all over.  I've been to the neurologist and had an EMG test done, along with the shock test, both were normal. I still twitch but not as bad.  Doc's did find out I'm hyperthryoid and that can cause twitching along with a host of other conditions..anxiety, vitamin deficiencies, fibromyalgia and some nasty bad stuff I don't even want to mention.  TOO SCARY.

In the meantime I found two wonderful forums where we ALL TWITCH.
www.aboutBFS.com  and www.braintalk.org(scroll down to the the m-z catagory and click on neuromuscular.  There are so many people that twitch you couldn't even imagine. Lurk or jump in, everyone is very supportive.    The sad thing is sometimes the twitching never goes completely away. Some people have been twitching for 20 years!!!!There is med's to help..such as xanax(anti-anxiety med).

Hope I helped you some.  The doctors here are very knowlegable.  They're always are good at steering someone in the right direction.

sleestack :)
