Muscle twitching while resting

My wife is 47 years old and when she goes to bed at night, her muscles begin to twitch,  She has always done this to a certain degree but seems to have gotten worse lately after she got pnemonia.  When I lay next to her tou can feel the muscles twitch and jerk.  It almost seems like a electrial storm is going off in her body.  There are times it appears her body was hit by lightning because her whole body jumps out of bed.  It wakes her up at night and often me.  I notice our 15 year old son does it slightly as well.  Any clue what this might be?

Sounds like myclonus. I am not a doctor or nurse, I have just done alot of research. Has she been evaluated by a neurologist? Medication may help.
Best wishes

I should also say that the twitching occurs on both side of her body and in both arms and legs
