My 5 mo old baby has a horrible neuro outlook.. please help

My lovely baby boy was born on 04/21/09
He was born with muscal weakness, but not actually diagnost with Hypotonia until about 2 mo ago. Today we finnaly went to the Neurologyst and she said she thinks he might have Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). She also noticed that he has single palmar crease. Do those usually go hand in hand? My boy is VERY bright and smily and happy-go-lucky. He grabs the attention of everyone around him because he is so sweet and lively. But at 5 1/2 mo old now he is still only being able to hold his head up, and sit with help. If you were to try to make him stand on his feet, you would get NO resistence. He also doesn't lift his head while on his stomach.

I have been upset all day reading all of the horrble things that have to do with SMA, If anyone can give me some info, I would be totally greatfull. Dane got his blood drawn to either conferm the SMA or rule it out.. so I guess I'll know in 2 weeks for sure.

Palmar creases have been seen to be commonly associated with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The treatment is usually symptomatic and supportive. Treatment is given  as the symptoms develop. It consists of treatments of Pneumonia, Scoliosis treatments, Treatments for respiratory infections, Physical therapy and Orthotic supports. Please consult a paediatric neurologist for management and supportive therapy for the improvement of muscle weakness symptoms. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
