My four year old........

by rebeccawi26, Sep 30, 2008 07:05AM
My four year old has woke up the last few nights and its like he's still asleep but his eyes are wide open and they don't blink and he is always crying saying "Get it" or "Get them". He has had a febrile seizure when he was about 2 yrs old. I have had seizures since I was about 16 yrs old and I'm afraid that he has some kind of seizure disorder. After I finally get my son to wake up, he always complains of his head hurting and its always in the same spot. I'm wondering if he's possibly having seizures in his sleep or Noctural Seizures. I was wondering if you could send me some information on toddlers and sleep seizures.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is possible that what your child is experiencing is sleep paralysis as a result of nightmares. However these could also be complex partial seizures. It is difficult to tell anything for sure without a clinical examination and tests like MRI of brain and EEG. Overnight sleep study with EEG will also help.
I would suggest you to consult a neurologist as soon as possible and let us know if you need more information.
