Hello, my nine month old daughter has been having myoclonic jerks for the past six weeks. They started abruptly one eveningEvening primrose Evening primrose oil while feeding her. Some are as simle as an eye blink, but most involve her arms pulling in and her body thrusting slightly. Sometimes they're single, other times two or three fire in a row.
Since they began she has had three EEGs and an MRI. All have come back clean--the EEGs did not indicate there was any loss of consiousness as is typical of epilepsyEpilepsy Epilepsy - resources Treatment of epilepsy, and the MRI without contrast didn't indicate any abnormalities. The neurologist believes they are benignBenign ear cyst or tumor Benign positional vertigo and hopes that they will go away over the next few months (so do we!). However, over the last week she has been having more than she has in the past (she's having around 20-30 a day vs. 5-15 when it started). Some seem to be triggered by eating, over-stimulation, or being over-tired, while others seem totally random. The doctor's official diagnosis is benignBenign ear cyst or tumor Benign positional vertigo myoclonis of infancy. Has anyone out there had experience with anything similar? Should we get a second opinion? We really like our doctor, but the reality is that this is such a rare condition that even an experienced doctor likely can't have his/her instincts properly callibrated. We're worried about it devolving into sever myoclonic epilepsy or something similarly scary. And we're worried that it could be foreshadowing something like turrets syndrome. Any help you could provide would be really appreciated.
