Mystery illness,i am sick and tired, can anyone help here?

I don't know but if i prolong this any longer,i will go insane.I have been having this vague vision thing,it is like i can see everything.but i feel i have to put constant pressure to see, along with some discomfort in my head and giddiness sometimes.I had this problem a year and a half back as well, got my eyes tested thoroughly, got my brain scanned and whatever there was to do medically, there was nothing, and after the results the problem went away on its own.

Now again, this has been happening to me since about 3 weeks now, some days it happens, some days it doesn't..but the days that this happen,it is constant and this problem intensifies towards the evening,i cannot understand a thing,i am not having any headaches as such this time, just this constant thought, that my vision is a little dim and blurry,i wear spex as i have a minimal number like -0.50 in my left eye and + 0.25 in my right eye ( cylindrical). However,i don't think the problem is due to this as i know many people who have such a small number and don't even wear spex.

Its this constant feeling that the vision is dim and i feel a little pressure on the top ride side of my head sometimes,i do use the laptop a lot but i wear my spex .I cannot understand this strange thing at all,it happened a year and a half back, went away on its own,now again it is bothering, and why does it worsen towards the evening, can someone please help me before i go crazy. Please

I do admit that i lead a unhealthy lifestyle which involves odd sleeping hours,i eat junk almost everyday, however i have cut that down drastically since a week.I also work on the laptop for about 4-5 hours a day but now i do that with my spex on only.Out of everything that you have listed in the last part of your messages,i am mentioning what happens to me.

I am a very paranoid person,i keep searching the internet whenever any slight thing goes wrong.I feel better somedays, somedays i am totally scared,it feels like if i dance i will fall and a few other fears, can anyone understand and help after reading this?????

Thanks,

Vik

You may be having muscle tension with the head pressure.  I think you should speak with a competent psychiatist for their professional opinion.

Hi Again friend,

I don't know how this whole thing works but yes i do feel a little relieved after taking these two tablets in a day,it is more like since a few days, when i have been waking up,i feel just perfect for a while and then after that the same feeling comes back to haunt me again. It's like someone is constantly pressuring my forehead and that stays constantly and a little discomfort on top of my forehead, however this is not painful, its just that whatever i see i feel that i have to strain to see that, the vision however is clear,s this is what i am constantly confused about.

Is it possible that a optical nerve is not carrying the adequate supply of blood to the eye with which this is happening, otherwise i cannot understand.I never used to think about god much, until now i am starting to,i think everyone who does not believe has to at some point for he is the one who will eventually guide us through every walk in life.

The whole problem is that i really cannot understand or diagnose the problem with me.When i had this a year and a half back, when i got all the scans and my eyes diluted, the feeling & anxiety was much worse than it is currently but then after the results, that problem went away on its own. However in this case, this seems to be constant for a month now and it gets progressively worse towards the evening, however since i have taken these two pills,i have felt better in going about things? what is this problem, can you take a guess?

If you literally instantly felt better with a tablet, this leads me to believe your mind and psyche are the main source of your trouble, because a pill can not help you that fast.  So you were psyched up to think this is going to help and you felt much better right away.  Lots of people have very real symptoms that stem from anxiety.  And manypeople who think they are going to feel better from a pill, actually feel better even when they take what's called a placebo, a pill that actually has no medicine in it.

In my own personal experience, I think sometimes even with symptoms that have an underlying medical cause, some medicine will seem to work for a while because of a positive attitude that it is going to help but after awhile that positive attitude factor seems to not matter and the pill no longer seems to help.

You know how drug manufacturers do testing of their medicine, with some taking placebos (no medicine) and some taking medicine (the pills they are testing)?  Then they follow these people for a long time to see how much the medicine actually helps what percentage of people.

You are still seeing these particles even with that medicine.  Now, they might be floaters, but an opthamologist should be able to help you determine that.  Also, there is such thing as an ocular migraine, where a person can get an aura, which can included visual disturbances, without getting a headache.

Floaters are generally considered harmless and if you have these, you might try looking up and down and side to side to try to move the spots until they no longer annoy you.  With ocular migraines, since you have been having the stress, diet and sleep issues, there's a good chance reducing stress, healthy diet, including foods that have natural anti-depressant properties, like some that I mentioned earlier, and proper restorative sleep time will help you with your problem.  If you know Jesus, I encourage you to continually cast your cares upon the Lord, Who is in control of your days and your health and doing this is extremely important when it comes to anxiety.  Anxiety can play a major toll on people's health.

You don't want to take that medicine you took long term, believe me, unless you have a psychiatrist who says you have a mental illness where you have to.  Those anti-depressant prescriptions can have unpleasant side effects.

A very weird thing happened today, since last night,i was feeling so paranoid and scared as i was feeling that i can't see,i mean i could see people, but i felt that i was seeing some particles everywhere,i got home and somehow slept, today morning was the same,no spots but the blurry bit, until i called my doctor and told him how i was feeling,he suggested i eat a nexito plus tablet, which i called for and ate, before that i was feeling that i can't see and that i will not be able to drive back from office, after a while i felt better,my vision got much better and that lasted for 3 hours,i do see these tiny particles,so now you can get the hang of it.

Do you think its my stress that is making me feel that i can't see properly given that i had an anti depressant and started feeling much better instantly,or do you think these are floaters, either way can this be treated? awaiting your reply?

You might ask the doctor if the particles are floaters.

It looks like you have some astigmatism in your eyes (see private message for more on that), which can cause blurred vision in itself.  You could seek another opinion about whether to not wear your glasses all the time to prevent your eyes from weakening faster or whether you ought to wear them all the time with your astigmatism since blurred vision is bothering you so much, plus you are getting some problem in that right side of your head.  My eyes are quite bad, but I rarely wear my glasses and I'm not supposed to wear mine for reading, only for distance.

I believe your spinning sensation, feeling like you are going to fall and the giddiness are separate issues from astigmatism and glasses.  Try posting on the eye care forum, where in the past there has been an eye doctor who contributed answers and see what they think?

Hi,

I was suggested eye exercises as they said that my eye muscles are a little weak and hence they hurt every now and then. However on your advice,i went and had my eye check today,i was told that i have to wear specks all the time, but i was wondering that if my number is so small,i say small because there are people i know, who have a little more number than mine presently and yet they don't use any specks. However these were my eye readings.

-0.25 spherical on the right & -0.50 cylindrical on the right only, and + 0.25 Spherical on the left and -0.75 cylindrical. So these were my readings, now you tell me that is this number strong enough to cause blurriness, headaches and giddiness??

With eye strain, they should have suggested resting your eyes more.  If you had something like strabismus or lazy eye or a vestibular problem, they might suggest eye exercises.  I'm glad in spite of this, your eyes improved that last time.  You are due for another eye check-up and if you can find a different eye doctor of good reputation, may I suggest you make a switch to them?

May I strongly suggest seeing another doctor than the one you saw about your cholesterol most recently?  Because the one you just saw is not that careful about your health it sounds like.  Here in the United States, when you have high cholesterol, you take measures to try to lower it and the doctor will want to check it again (I believe about six months later) to see whether or not the steps you are taking has gotten it into normal range or not.

Glad you are eager to take more dietary measures for your health.  Eating oatmeal is another thing that may help some with your cholesterol.  And exercising regularly (at least a half hour- can be walking) 5 times a week may help raise your HDL, the good cholesterol that fights the LDL- bad cholesterol.  Limiting your sugar intake may help lower your triglycerides, which can cause plaque formation in your blood vessels (can clog your arteries).

Your blood pressure and pulse typically will be different for the first minute you are standing compared to what it is when you are sitting, but after that, it should stabilize.  It is not unusual to have fluctuations in blood pressure and pulses within ten minutes.  If you have been exercising a lot more than you used to, that could mean your heart is getting in better condition and it doesn't need to beat so many times per minute to supply your body with needed blood.  But if your heart rate is lower than what it was playing tennis, it might not be a bad idea to at least ask about a holtor monitor test for your heart rhythm.  And I might suggest you get your blood pressure machine checked against your new (yes, because of the cholesterol thing, I still think you need to switch) doctor's machine for accuracy.  If your blood pressure machine is accurate, or if you get a new home blood pressure monitor cuff (Omron brand has a good reputation for these), continue to monitor your blood pressure.

You can do orthostatic blood pressures, where you lay for 10 minutes, take your blood pressure, then sit for a couple minutes, take it again, and then stand for two to three minutes and take it again.  But mostly, when you are monitoring your blood pressure, just take it while sitting, legs uncrossed and arm in relaxed slightly bent position resting on something.

I got to the part of yoru post where you say you are getting scared and paranoid.  You may be having panic attacks and you describe phobias.  You might ask an experienced psychiatrist of respected reputation whether or not you may need a mild tranquilizer and or other medication for these feelings while you take steps to lower your stress levels and start getting adequate sleep.  Unless you have a diagnosed mental illness not explained by an underlying medical condition, I don't like to suggest pursuing meds like that for anything more than as temporary as possible.

Also, you might try drinking a glass of water before standing and see if that helps anything, in case you are dehydrated when you wake up.  But with spinning, that is a typical description of vertigo.  Are you hyperventilating?  If not, with the spinning and feeling like you are going to fall sensations, may I suggest you visit an ear, nose, and throat doctor who conducts vestibular testing?  I don't know if they have this kind of testing there, but a VNG test might be helpful, given your eyes and spinning, going to fall sensations.

Also, it doesn't hurt to get a thyroid function test to make sure that is normal (if you haven't had that done within the last few months), as if your thyroid function is out of whack, this can play a big toll on your emotional stability.

Hi again,

The Reason that they suggested me eye exercises was because of the strain on my eyes,so they said that these exercises will help, even though i never tried any of them as the problem went away on its own.

Yes,i got my whole lipid profile done the same time as i got my eyes tested properly and that a year back, after that i have got regular vision check up which did suggest that my number had increased a little but that is about all.

I showed my record to the doctor a few days back,he said that the cholesterol is high, and i should just take measures to lower it down,i said i was already taking measures so he said Ok to that,i am anyways thinking of getting a routine check up done, which i will get in a few days or so for my piece of mind.

I don't eat fish or any of the above that you specified, however i think i should start with that as soon as possible.

I have been checking my BP with the home testing machine,i think there is something wrong with the machine,as two times i have been to the doctor in the last 5 days and he has checked my BP and pulse, only to find it perfectly normal.I am saying there is a glitch here in the machine,as right now the reading i took standing was 137 /88 and the Pulse was 72,after 10 minutes i took it again while sitting and the reading was 119/72 and the Pulse was 60,I called up my doctor and told him about the pulse and he said there was nothing to worry as if the pulse rate is low here then its a good thing.I cannot understand the sudden rise and fall of my blood pressure in 10 minutes,so i believe it is safe to assume that the machine is acting up or something, what do you suggest?

I don't have any discomfort around the heart or anything like that,i do have high cholesterol as specified above, but i was also playing tennis regularly, however i stopped only because of this Giddy feeling that i get off and on,it is very annoying.Like for the past few mornings,as i wake up,i have felt very scared and paranoid and for the first 5-10 minutes,it feels like i am spinning and will fall any moment, but then it gets normal, fail to understand this either.

No,there is no coating on my glasses for computer glare,i will take the break that you have specified, however i still cannot possibly understand what this vague problem is,i feel fine sometimes and then i have this phobia that if i dance i might fall,if i go out,i might not be able to do what i am setting out to do,and this vision bit gets more annoying towards the evening,i am really confused.

I've never heard of patches of cholesterol in the eyes- could you be talking about floaters?  What reason did they give you for needing to do eye exercises?

In your post above, you said you got your cholesterol checked around the same time last year... did you mean around the same time you got your eyes checked the most recently?  If so, it's time to schedule another eye check up.

And your cholesterol, when high like that, should be monitored closely.  If it has been more than six months since your last lipid panel, please show your doctor your record of when you last got tested, showing that it was high.  You can mention you've been taking dietary measures and wonder if there is any improvement and would they please recheck your cholesterol?

Some oils are bad for your blood vessels.  But some oils are actually good for your cholesterol levels, such as those found in freshwater fish, like salmon, tuna, and sardines.  Olive oil is a more healthy oil to use in cooking.  Flaxseed oil can be taken in capsules and is supposed to be helpful too, though to a lesser extent than fish oil capsules (if you try fish oil capsules, I recommend trying enteric coated ones).  I take flaxseed oil capsules morning a mid-day myself because even the enteric coated fish oil capsules I've tried had me burping up fish flavor.  I don't take it in the evening, because I believe it was the cause of vivid dreams when I took it late in the day like that.  Eating things like walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, and pistachios are also said to be helpful.

Your blood pressure is a little on the high side, but your pulse is at the low end of normal.  Usually, if you are stressed and your blood pressure goes up (which you are right- stress can bring it up), a person's pulse can go up too.  But your pulse is evidently not up too.

Therefore, may I suggest you make a diary of blood pressures and pulses, taking them at different times of day for a week or two?  If more than 25 percent of your blood pressure readings are high during that time, ask your doctor if blood pressure medication is right for you, because you don't want to let hypertension go on untreated long term.  Also, if your pulses turn out to now be often running slower per minute than your old normals for pulses, ask the doctor if they can check out your heart with tests too.

It might be helpful to get take more time away from your computer before going back to it (you might try a 10 minute break from it instead of two), also look in the distance from time to time and some gentle neck exercises for built up tension.  Do you have a coating on your glasses for computer glare?

Hi,

Thank you for responding.I am in such a mess right now, thank god i came across this forum, people here seem to be friendly and responsive unlike elsewhere.

The First time that i had this vague symptoms, the first thing i did was to get my eyes tested thoroughly,They put some solution in my eyes which checked everything.my retina was fine,my number had not increased even a little,i was told that there are a few patches of cholesterol, was prescribed a few eye exercises, that's about all,no,i have not tried any eye drops as such.

I must admit that when i am concentrating on the laptop, even though i do have my specks on,but i don't take much break and work continuously, might just get up for about 2 minutes in an hour and a half or so.

The pressure on the right side is not on the temple, but on the top right side of my forehead, even though the headache is not bad at all,in fact it is bare minimal,i don't grind my teeth as such either.I got my vision re-checked again just recently,it was -0.25 and -0.50 cylindrical earlier,it has increased to -0.50 in my eye and + 0.25 in my other eye, since then i am wearing my specks consistently.

I did get a lipid panel run on me around the same time last year and my cholesterol was on the high side and i was advised staying away from oily and fatty foods and i am sincerely making an effort on that front now.I just checked my blood pressure right now which might be high due to the stress as i am trying to figure out the problem with me,anyhow the machine i have at home says 145/91 and the pulse is 61,which i cannot seem to understand one bit, other times its mostly normal, the pulse. The blood pressure is high may be because of stress.

I will try to get in bed early as i do have a messed up routine, please suggest if you can understand my symptoms better after more briefing, thank you.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to get an eye check up again, just in case.  It might be that you are experiencing dry eye, which can cause some blurring- have you tried eye drops?  Ask the eye doctor if they would include in the check up looking for signs of dry eye and also for any sign of cataracts, which can cloud the vision.

It might be that you are experiencing eye fatigue with computer usage.  Are you taking regular breaks away from the computer for at least ten minutes at a time?  Are you looking off in the distance from time to time while at the computer?

Having pressure at the top right side of your head- if it is at your right temple line, you might consider whether you are having jaw tension or TMJ dysfunction.  Do you work your jaw muscles when you are stressed during the day, grind or clench your teeth at night?  I found when I first was on the computer a lot that I had my vision go downhill.  Getting your vision re-checked since it's been quite some time would not be a bad idea.

Since you have eaten a lot of junk food, have you had a lipid panel run on you to learn how high your cholesterol is?  How is your blood pressure- do you get it checked when you are experiencing these sensations you are describing?   And what is your pulse at those times?

Hopefully, you can get into a normal circadian rhythm for your sleep.  May I suggest trying to be in bed by 10 PM and avoiding the computer at least an hour prior to that?
