NCS-median nerve entrapment neuropathy across wrist

The report of the nerve conduction studies(both upper limbs) are as follow

Motor nerve conduction :
Distal latencies were prolonged in both median nerves (Lt >Rt) with normal CMAP amplitudes and conduction veolcities. CMAP amplitudes, distal latencies and conduction velocities were normal in both right and left ulnar nerves
"F" Latencies were normal all over

Sensory nerve conduction :
Onset latencies were prolonged in both median nerves (Lt >Rt) with normal SNAP amplitudes and reduced conduction  velocities. SNAP amplitudes, onset latencies and conduction velocities were normal in both righ and left ulnar nerves.

Impression - Bilateral median nerve entrapment neuropathy across wrist (Lt .Rt)

End of reports (of course not including the graphs here)

Doctor consulted said need operation and also gave some medicine.
Could somebody explained what is being exactly said in the report and is an operation really warranted to solve the problem.

Symptoms:
Seem to have those of carpal tunnel syndrome one
    * Numbness or tingling in the thumb and next two or three fingers of one or both hands
    * Numbness or tingling of the palm of the hand
    * Little Pain sometime in wrist or hand in one or both hands
    * Problems with fine finger movements
    * Weak grip sometime
    * Weakness in one or both hands

Sometimes the symptoms goes away and then it comes back..numbness is the most prominent symptom in this case..

Please tell me what you all make of it and any remedy
