Neck, Eye and Ear pulsating and Pain

Neck, Eye and Ear pulsating and Pain

I have been suffering from headaches for the past 7 weeks.  At first, the headaches occurred just once or twice a week, but I now have a dull ache and a unilateral pressure feeling all the time.  The real bad headaches with significant eye and ear pulsating are also happening more and more frequently.

I am not much of a drinker, but the first headache happened just seconds after taking a sip of alcohol while I was on vacation.  A couple weeks later I started getting headaches when I turned my head and neck.  Now, I wake up with a headache almost every day and it gets really bad around 2pm in the afternoon regardless of position.

The headache generally starts in my neck with stiffness and pain stretching out toward my right shoulder.  The pain usually creeps up the back of my head to my ear which is pulsating and feeling pressurized.  When it gets really bad, I will feel a pulsating in either my right eye or in the surrounding orbit -- usually on top or on the side.

While the headache is generally unilateral, the dull ache in the back and top of my head sometimes extend to the left side and my left eye sometimes pulsates as well.  It is not uncommon for me to have dental pain on both sides of my bottom teeth during a really bad headache.

When the headache gets bad, I lose my train of thought, forget where I am, take the wrong train, and forget that I am talking on the phone.  Kind of scary.

I get a lot of nausea and sweating when my head is pounding, but no sensitivity to light and no need to sleep like a classic migraine.  I had those headaches as a kid.

The unilateral pain switched sides at times for the first few weeks, but seems to be mainly on the right side.  My nose also seems to get stuffed and runny on the side that my head hurts.

Tylenol, Advil and Flexeril did nothing for the headaches.  Oxycodone takes the edge off after a couple hours, but seems to hit full effectiveness about 4 to 5 hours later.  I seem to have a good day or two after I take an Oxycodone.  (I have only taken 3 in the past 7 weeks as I am very nervous about addictiveness and bounceback effect).

I actually got the most relief last week when a burning sensation - lasting only a second - shot up my neck and caused my hands to go tingly for a minute.  It was like a lightning bolt.  The pressure on the right side of my head resolved within 15 minutes.

The pressure and pulsating have since come back, but they are not as bad as they were.  As you can imagine, I am still more than a little concerned.

I am a 32-year-old male with Crohn's disease who suffers from significant extraintestinal inflammation.  I started Humira approximately 14 weeks ago and I am concerned Humira might be the culprit.  I also wonder if I got some sort of infection due to immune deficiency.  The Humira has caused a lot of muscle stiffness in my legs and feet.  My only other medication is low dose (450mg/day) of Lithium for anxiety and it does the trick.

My CT Scan and physical exam were fine and my Neuro wants me to try Indocin.  I'm not excited about putting that med in my stomach due to the Crohn's.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
