Neck pain/grinding sound

Neck pain/grinding sound

For the past couple months, I've noticed a grinding type of noise when I rotate my head back and forth.  It could have been there for a long time, but I just noticed it in November.  Should I be concerned?  I have no neurological symptoms, but I do have cartilage problems in my hands and feet.  Also, I have a sensation of choking that started in November also.

Dear Sam,
A grinding sound in the neck is not necessarily a sign of something bad going on.  It is quite common in the population and can occur for benign reasons as well as pathological situations.  In the absense of any pain, numbness or weakness in the arms or legs there is likely not anything to be concerned about.
If, after this, you are still concerned about your neck, then get it checked out if for nothing else than for your own peace of mind.
Good luck.
