Neck

About 4 weeks ago, pain in left side of neck occurred. It was hard to turn head and drive. I thought I had an ear infection so I receive an anti-biotic from my doctor without a visit. Pain is getting worse and I am nausea off and on. What do you think is the problem?

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you, I can not give you any specific advice on sudden & progressive neck pain, but would like to provide you relevant information.  Four weeks is a bit longer time for any kind of neck pain, therefore needs complete evaluation. In addition to this, history of any persistent infection, trauma and wrong posture work history need to be assessed thoroughly with the help of a doctor. In the meantime, warm compression and topical pain killers may help you in providing some relief. Hope this helps.

For over a year I've had chronic pain in the neck upon lying down at night.  I'm working with a physical therapist and exercising on a regular basis, but I'm still having problems.  I have a herniated disc at L5 S1 which has caused problems when I stand or walk for too long.  I have to take breaks every 15 minutes and sit down.  Can the nerve from that disc also cause problems in my neck?
