Need Help

I have a three and a half year old daughter who has developmental delays in her language skills, fine motor,  and social skills. She was placed in a preschool program that is supposed to help her with these issues. She has seen a dev. pediatrician and he's attitude is to wait and see. If she is somewhere on the autism spectrum her behaviors will become more apparent. My concern about this is maybe we could be doing more for her right now. Her teacher at school suggested private speech therary since she was making little progress in that area in class. She is aquiring words but still will use only one word to ask for things..Juice, apple, etc. She will not answer questions. You can have no dialogue with her. She does not like for her teachers to talk to her. They have heard her use three word phrases in her play.It is very frustrating because in every other way she seems so normal. Her hearing is fine. Her gross motor skills are at her age range. After all this my question is should she see a pediatric neurologist? Is there some other diagnosis that would have these similar symptoms. I question her being on the autism spectrum because she is so happy and not really avoidant of others. She is very loving and likes to cuddle, on the other hand she has no interest to play with her peers and has repetitive behaviors...spinning, playing the same thing over and over. I would appreciate any advice you can give.
Thank you...

Dear ACH:

I am sorry to hear about your daugher.  It is difficult to tell you without doing the exam myself.  It does sound like pervasive developmental disorder.  Whether it is autism remains spectulative.  There are other things like Angelman's, Rett's, that can have similar symptoms but from what your telling me, I would lean toward PDD.  I would get as much help with language, fine motor skills, and behavior as possible.  Whether this is best done by the pediatrician or pediatric neurologist I can't say.  Just, get the most help you can.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD

hhelloe everyone, i have adaughter as well who is delayed in speech, mine ang gross motors, as well as sociallly, who loves to spine seek hugs, crash into thinf for her the problem is snsory integration problems which cause her brain to need mre stimulase to work properally , the language problem for my daughter we think is due maybe to her seizures but the rest is the si problems.  iwould recomand a ped nueroevaluation, and a ot eval since theyare the individuals who id and treat si problems.
