Nerve Disorder? Spinal Cord Problem? Mayo Clinic Last Resort..

I have always been a healthy person with the exception of an extremely high metabolism.  I am 31 years old.

Two months ago, I was sitting still in a chair when I felt something "squiggle" under my skin starting at the base of my skull on the left side, down my neck and down the left side of my spine where about half way down, it felt as if it hit my spine and exploded in pain.  the pain shot through my chest, knocking the wind out of me.

I ended up in the ER that day and they claimed it was a pinched muscle or nerve.  Several days later, I saw a chiro.  He worked on me for a few weeks with no luck.

I started developing MANY symptoms over the past two months.  They come when they want, no matter how active I am.

Everything from headaches (which I have never had in the past), weakness in various parts of my body intermittantly, vision problems intermittantly, muscle spasms everywhere, twitches everywhere, a constant pressure in my spine right in the area that exploded in pain and intermittant tremors in my arms & hands.  And my latest...a trip to the ER last saturday due to my legs all of the sudden developing MAJOR cramping pain shooting from right above the waist and all the way down to the point that I couldn't even walk.  Those symptoms among many...

Ive been to several doctors, including my regular physician, opthamologist, chiropractor, and neurologist.  New symptoms are still popping up.

All tests performed came back normal and included 3 MRI's (with & without contrast..brain, cervical & thoracic), CT scan of head & neck, Angiography (CT)with contrast (brain & neck blood vessels), various regular X-rays and a ton of bloodwork.

Everyone has been clueless thus far.  Thankfully my regular physician is not giving up on me and I just got the call from him today that he is going to refer me to the Mayo Clinic up in Rochester.  I just hope that they can sort this all out.

Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them or something similar?  My luck is i'll be one of those Mystery Diagnosis'  It's very frustrating to say the least.

It's not in your head.  Don't let anyone tell you that.

Hi patsy and thanks for the response.  It's funny you should mention fibromyalgia because I just came across that last night.

I've been researching my symptoms for quite awhile and trying to pair them up with signs of something or other.  Fibromyalgia could very well explain some of it.  The question that still remains with me is what was it that originally happened (with the squiggle down my neck and spine) and why is it that I have pressure around my spine where the problem originally happened.

It's frustrating because I can diagnose many of my "symptoms" individually but have found nothing on the initial onset.  It still leaves me wondering what originally happened and why.

Im sorry you have been going through this for two years hun.  I know an individual with fibro and she lives in pain daily.  But, she also has other problems that she feels is not part of her diagnosis but the doctors seem satisfied now that they have a diagnosis and don't put the time into her anymore.

Im not giving up and will not let the doctors give up on me at Mayo like they have here in my area.  I think that here where I live, all doctors except for my regular physician, look at me like I have two heads on my shoulders.  Like this is all in my head or something just because all tests have been normal.

Again, thank you for the response and I do with you the best!

I have much of what you have and more.  I've seen 5 neuro's, all tests are normal.  Mine is a mystery as well.  Two years for me.  If they can't find anything you generally get a fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue diagnosis.  I did.
