Nerve/muscle twitching

I ran across your forum today and was reading the posts and couldn't believe it! More people just like me...I found a post that said that medications from the fluoroquinolone antibiotics (such as Cipro, Levaquin, Tequin, Avelox or Floxin) can cause these symptoms...I took Cipro and Levaquinn about 7 years ago, for a few short days each and my doctor switched the medication saying I was allergic. Now I am wondering if all my symptoms that have gone undiagnosed could be a side effect of those medications. Anyone else able to tie the two together? If so, what can you do to make it better? The muscle/nerve twitching is the worst symptom that I have right now and it is not really painful but more annoying than anything.
Thanks,
Brooke

A magnesium deficiency can also cause muscle twitching.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
“A fasciculation (or "muscle twitch") is a small, local, involuntary muscle contraction (twitching) visible under the skin arising from the spontaneous discharge of a bundle of skeletal muscle fibers.” Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasciculation

Yes, it is possible that your medications could have caused the twitching. However stopping the medication should revert the symptoms. I would suggest you get the blood levels of the following checked if they have not already been checked: potassium, calcium, sodium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
