Nervous System Gone Crazy in Head and Ears

Nervous System Gone Crazy in Head and Ears

Help!  After having my gall bladder out 6 years ago, I experienced 5 weeks of severe vertigo and nausea.  After several appointments and an MRI with no answers, I went to Mayo Clinic 4 months later.  I was functioning again and just had slight vertigo at times.  They ran vestibular testing and just knew that the problem was coming from the inner ear.  The past 5 years I would only have slight vertigo if I tried to ride in the back seat of a vehicle or positioned my head wrong for a long amount of time.  Eye movements would set me off as well, but I could close my eyes for several minutes and it would go away.  These episodes lessened over time.  Since then, I have had a difficult time with medications.  They seem to go straight to my ears (vertigo).  Ultram set me off into severe visual vertigo, vomitting, heart palpitations, and the feeling as though I was on fire.  I was put on Yaz(Estrogen) Dec. 2008 for menstrual cramping.  I had to see my primary physician for severe fatigue in January, and began to become sensitive to sound in restaurants that month as well.  My head would just not feel right.  I had to carry cotton in my purse.  In March of this year, I had an amalgam filling put in.  No problems right after that.  In April 2009, my ENT thought I was experiencing vestibular migraines.  She told me they were easily treatable with medication.  I was scared to death.  She reassured me that we would begin at a low dose and move slowly.  On 10 mg. I felt a heightened sense of motion.  She told me to ignore that side effect that my body was just getting used to it.  She doubled the dose to 20 mg after 7 days, and within 3 days I experienced vertigo while driving.  The next day, I had to leave work, because my head felt so funny.  I just couldn't think straight.  Again, I was told to stay on it.  I took it again that night and my nervous system went nuts!  My ears had extreme fullness, loud rining, and sensitivity to sound.  I also became sensitive to light with some black and white blinking at the top and bottom of my vision.  I was unable to wear my glasses without my ears becoming worse.  I had to sleep inclined, and I kept waking up with vertigo every 10 minutes.  I had an intense migraine as you can imagine, and had only had a painful migraine one other time...but not with these other symptoms.  I was taking off all medication after 12 days.  All this lasted for 5 weeks with out subsiding!  I was put on a steroid that made my temples and forehead burn tremendously, but the ringing and fullness in my ears decreased a little.  I was put on Gabopentin after 7 weeks to try to calm my nervous system which only increased my ear fullness and ringing immediately after one dose of 100 mg!  Acetametophin caused an electrical feeling in my ears.  Now 11 weeks later, I still have the sensitivity to sound (hyperacusis).  My left ear is worse than my right ear.  I also have sensitivity to light although it is better than before.  I still hve to sleep in a recliner and only sleep about 3 or 4 hours before being awoken.  then when I try to go back to sleep, as soon as I relax I'm thrown a bought of vertigo until I open my eyes.  I still can't wear my eyeglasses without causing a headache in my forehead and tension in my ears.  My ears are full at times and when the fullness goes down they feel sore.  I tried to take a vitamin supplement, and it immediately caused my ears to inflame again with more sound sensitivity and headache.  Anything that I try to put in my body to help...seems to make it worse.  WHY?  What on earth am I suppose to do?  My doctors are baffled.  Why won't my body accept anything that is suppose to help it now????   PLEASE HELP!
