I thougt this might be of interest to you. I posted several times here regarding my diagnosis of Polysensory Neuropathy (also have been told its small fiber polysensory Neuropathy). I indicated I had been taking Neurontin and my pain symptoms intensified to new places and became acute, much worse then before Neurontin. I was recently seen at The Washington U/Barnes Neuromuscular clinic and had mentioned this to my doctor . They said they had a few other patients with the same small fiber sensory neuropathy that had increased symptoms and pain while on Neurontin. I thought this information might be useful to other people since you have provided a lot of information to me. It was also explained to me that Quinolone Antibiotics cannot cause Neuropathy when I asked before on this forum. However, I was told that at Georgetown University's Pharmacology Dept. they are documenting cases of Neurotoxic effects (quinolone induced neuropathys). I originally had an allergic reaction to Cipro & Levaquin given to me back to back over three weeks and when I got the drug rash I had the burning in my body and tingling.
I read also on the inserts that both of these cause Paresthesias! Isn't Paresthesias a sensory neuropathy? Would you think that a drug that could evoke Paresthesias in someone who had an allergic reaction or hypersensitive reaction might well also then cause a small fiber neuropathy (sensory only) or are these two neuropathies in different categories. Since my last post I have been tested for everything there is to test, and all the Neurologists find no other cause. Anyway, if you could please let me know
whether something that can cause Paresthesias could also induce Small Fiber sensory neuropathy I'd be interested in your opinion. I still have periodic episodes of more intense burning and when they happen I manifest what looks like a pus filled acne pimples in the areas that burned. Could this be from inflammation of the nerves just below the skin? Thank you for answering my question.
