He said he really wish that some kind of surgery will suck the thing out. It all started when he was senior high when he experienced
anxiety, fear, and worry. At the beginning, he felt temples throbbing and indecisive. After his last round of SAT examination, he
masturbataed. He said he suddently felt pressure inside his head right after he masturbataed. According to Sigmund Freud, masturbation
is an unsatisfied excitement, which often caused excessive anxiety and various neurotic illness?(I read an article about it) Is it true?
Most doctors here do not agree. Anyway, since that date on it has been an nightmare for him and for our entire family. He was given CAT Scan
and MRI. Nothing indicated anything physically wrong. We have him to see a few psychiatrists. He has no response to any anti-depression and
anti-anxiety drugs, anti-psychotic drugs from Prozac, Paxil, xanax, Zoloft to recent Anafranil, Effexor, and Zyprexa. QEEG indicated mild
abnormal waves. He has been through psychotherapy, biofeeback, Chinese herb medicine, and Chi-Gon treatment. He has also seen chiropractor.
All these to no avail. The sensation of head pressure disables him thinking clearly. He can not utilize his brain. He can not focus and study.
He can not even enjoy watching TV. He said he is not crazy and he shouldn't belong to mental ward. He said if only this head pressures gone
that he could go back to school. He wants to learn and to read. Up to this point, he wants to give up his life. He begs me to end his suffering.
As his mother, I will never give up on him. I overheard someone had similar symptom because her brain pressure was too high, and was completely
recovered by surgery. Can any test to measure his brain pressure? So far, the only thing we did not try is ECT or brain surgery. Does anybody know
people has similar symptom and got cured? Does ECT work? We need experts' opinion. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Dear Helen:
1. Masturbation is a perfectly physiological act and has no deleterious effect on the brain or on the mind.
2. It is rather unlikely that your son has as serious neurological problem, although I agree that the possibility of high intracranial pressure needs to be ruled out (in case this has not already been done). If your son has had a normal funduscopic examination (eye exam with the ophthalmoscope) from an experienced neurologist or ophthalmologist, high pressure in the intracranial cavity is ruled out with near certainty. The other unlikely possibility that needs to be looked at is that of a metabolic or neurodegenerative disorder that presents with psychiatric features.
3. It is most likely that your son has a primary psychiatric problem. Continued expert psychiatric care and perseveration on the part of the family is critically important. I would suggest continued care from one experienced psychiatrist that your son trusts. Family counselling may help. Refrain from "Doctor shopping" and "trying out" alternative therapies.
4. Brain surgery has no place in the treatment of your son's problem. ECT is indicated in specific situations such as severe depression and some psychotic states. In addition to drugs, some forms of psychotherapy and cognitive therapy may be very helpful if some form of an anxiety disorder is diagnosed.
Good luck!
