: My 14 year old daughter came to me in a panic a few nights ago and said she was so dizzy and felt like she was in an earthquake on the inside.  I am a nursing student with extensive ward clerk experience.  I just want to know more about epilepsy at this point.  We will be taking her to a neurologist SOON.  Thanks.

Kelly, there is such a thing as vertiginous epilepsy but it is extremely rare. Any of a number of disorders, both inner ear/vestibular, neurologic, and psychiatric can produce sinilar symptoms, so I think your decision to get her to a neurologist fast is a good one. I would suggest that you call our patient education department for materials on epilepsy at 216-444-2656. There is a specific publication called "Epilepsy Patient guide" It is blue. There is also another publication entitled "Pediatriic Epilepsy". Finally, you may wish to request a copy of the department of neurology/neurosurgery's "Frequently asked neurologic questions" guide. Another good source of materials is the Epilepsy Foundation of ASmerica, who may also be able to specifically recommend an epileptologist near you. Their phone # is 1-800-EFA-1000, or 301-459-3700; e-mail is ***@**** and web page address is http://www.efa.org; fax # is 301-459-4951. I hope these materials help give you some good general information.
