No Deep Sleep!

No Deep Sleep!

I'm trying to find more information about my mom's sleep problems.  She has both Lupus and Fibromyalgia and also suffers with Restless Legs.  She has had continuing problems getting sleep and was finally sent to a clinic.  The results showed that she did not have sleep apnea, but that in the night she was observed got NO "deep sleep". She was told that many people who come to the clinic get very little deep sleep, but that she was the first one this particular person had seen with absolutely NONE!  Something was mentioned about Alpha waves, or something, I think.  She and I would both like to learn more about what is going on with her and what treatments are possible.  She does have a doctor's appointment to discuss these results, but it's not for another 3 weeks, so we're trying to do some investigating in the meantime!  What can you tell me about all of this?

It is not very clear what exactly there were talking about when they said ,
that your mother had no deep sleep, the deep stages of sleep, are stages 3
and 4 and rapid eye movement sleep ( REM ), it would be extremely unusual to
have no stage 3 or 4 sleep so I suspect that they are referring to
REM sleep which is the dreaming stage of sleep.
This is frequently greatly reduced in a sleep lab due to the unusual
and uncomfortable enviorment, it is not all that uncommon to find it is
absent if someone had a very restlesss night, if you mother ever reports
having dreams then she does have REM sleep.
Again it is not possible to be absolutely sure as I do not know what exactly they
were referring to and I am trying to guess what was meant. i you can clarify what
exactly was said perhaps we can be more specific.
