Numbness & Stiffness on Left Side - Effect of Meningitis?

Numbness & Stiffness on Left Side - Effect of Meningitis?

I was born in 1980 in Chennai, India. I had bacterial meningitis when I was 10 months old. I was hospitalized, administered steroids and discharged back home in two weeks. Dut to an over-dosage of steroids, I was re-admitted within some days, this time for close to a month.

Upon successful treatment and discharge from the hospital, my mother was asked to keep encouraging me for active hearing and speech responses. Thankfully, I had completely recovered and had no complications thereafter.

I did quite well through school and college. I am now married and have a three and a half year old son. I have had a successful career so far and currently work with Siemens as a Manager.

I was diagnosed with cataract about 13 yrs back. However, since it was not ripe enough for surgery, I had to wait. The growth was faster in the left eye I got it operated in 2006 and my right eye in 2007, ten yrs after diagnosis. The doctor felt that the administering of steroids during meningitis could have accelerated the onset of cataract.

For the last 4 yrs, I have been facing discomfort on the left side of my body. My left arms, hands, feet and legs feel cramped when I perform regular physical activities and I feel unable to hold objects in my left hand for long. The fingers on my left hand feel numb after continuous activities. My left knee and thigh muscles often ache when I do normal, regular, day-to-day work. When I carry a backpack on my left shoulder, the entire left side feels the strain of the back pack and becomes numb or cramped starting from the left side of the neck, down to the toes on my left feet. Of late, there's a stiffness even around my left elbow and I feel the strain every time I exercise my left arm for any activity.

I consulted with my family doctor, who is a successful neurosurgeon. He knows our complete family history and was the one who first diagnosed me of meningitis.Initally, soon after the birth of my son, my family doctor felt that my physical condition  was because of wrong feeding posture. Subsequently during my visits to him, he has discouraged me from discussing this matter and dismiises it off saying regular muti-vitamins would help strengthen the weak nerves.

Also, I am a trained singer and was in sales for 4 yrs (2001-2005). So my voice is used to long hours of use. However, the last two yrs, I often find my voice/throat sore when I wake up in the morning, even when I havent put my voice under stress. Often the soreness lasts for 2-3 days before it is restored. Coukld this also be a long term effect of meningitis?

I was reading through some posts on this website and am anxious to know the root cause of my physical condition and attain a more healthy state as early as possible.
