Numbness in finger tips

by Alice-J, Feb 26, 1999 12:00AM

Yesterday morning I spent approximately an hour sanding, then spraying, a wrought iron fence with rustoleum spray paint.  Since that time, (24 hours) my pointing finger (used for depressing the aerosol) feels anethetised. Is is possible I have trapped or compressed a nerve, or that a chemical in the paint has caused this problem?  Many thanks in advance for comments.

Dear Alice,
At this point I would say the numbness is probably due to the compression of a small nerve. Symptoms related to an intoxication with chemicals would be more diffuse. You can continue to monitor this symptom, and seek medical attention if it doesn't go away (which might take several days) or if it spreads to other parts of your body.
