Numbness on side of face

Hi I have been experiencing a numbness on the right side of my face, it has got worse in the past 4 months, although I have experienced the symtoms (symptoms) in varying degrees of entensity for around 7 years now.
It started in my jaw and spread  around my ear and up to my eye, sometimes it feels like a pressure and a kind of creeping sensation that can go around the right side of my head. My eye looks and feels different than the other and I have a constant feeling of pressure around it! At times the numbness goes down my neck and into my shoulder, but lately it has developed in my cheek, side of mouth and teeth!

I have been to many doctors that specialize in dentistry, vision and neurology the conclusion I got from them was that it is possibly nerve damage which could be caused by shingles which i had around 8 years ago (post herpetic neuralgia) I was given amitriptyline and took it for 2 months with the symtoms (symptoms) just getting worse so I stopped. I am far from convinced this is the correct diagnosis! I am going back to the doctor next week as this is dominating my life and I am very frustrated that it is not getting any better just worse!

Any information from anyone who has this type of problem or who has had it and is now better would be greatly appreciated
