Long story short, I tore a disk in my L5. I have received a few shots in my spine to help out, but they didn't help in the long run. They tell me nerves hurt from the back will go down, so my legs would feel numb. I feel pain going down my right leg, but I have also been feeling numbness between my shoulder blades at the base of my neck. Like a tingly/burning feel. It used to come and go, but now it is constant. Could this be related to the back problem that I already have or is this something completely new? It is starting to get on my nerves (no pun intended) and I want to get it fixed, but I am not sure if I should go in or if it is something minor. Thanks for any help.

As Jemma and your dr said back pain especially in the lumbar region will affect the nerves that go down. The problem can be due to your back though. I herniated S1- L3 and my dr told me to be careful because your back is like dominoes. When one area has problems the rest will eventually start having problems. When you have a weakened area the rest of the back/neck try to make up for it and eventually it causes disc, muscle and vertebrae problems.

Any loss of feeling is not just a minor problem. That is signs of nerve damage. You should get it checked. Also there is a nerve conduction chart on my profile that shows the nerves what they control and the things they affect that you may find helpful. Best wishes, Sissie.

Lower back spinal problems will refer pain down along the legs and you can feel tingling and numbness.

The tingling and burning feeling in the shoulder blades at the base of your neck is due to problems in the neck area.

Have you had xrays done of your neck to show any arthritis there?
You may have a pinched nerve in one of the vertebrae in the cervical area (neck).  A physiotherapist will be able to help relieve this for you.
Because of this you may also have knotted muscles that have gone into spasm.  If you can get someone to massage the shoulder blades for you to help relax the muscles that will help too.

I have been using massage oil with arnica for my husbands bad shoulder blade and it has helped.

Best either see your doctor to refer you for xrays or physiotherapy.  The doctor may prescribe pain relief and anti-inflammatory drugs for you.

Best wishes.
