Occasional unequal pupils.

Okay so I've researched this topic constantly online but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
My boyfriend has trouble with his eyes sometimes, just every so often his right pupil dilate much larger than his left, and he says while it's like it he has to cover his right eye. If he covers only his left eye and looks through his right eye, everything is still the right size in ratio, but it's all really far away. He describes it as if you look through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars. It doesn't necessarily give him a sore head or anything, except for the fact his eyes are straining. It only happens maybe once or twice a month, at the most random times, and usually lasts about 5-10 mins or less.
I have read up on things on the internet but most don't describe what he says about everything being really small. And most are severe drug related. He has only ever smoked weed, provided he did for a long time but yeah. He is 22 years old and says that is has happened for the past 8 or 9 years and his opticians have never known what to say about it.

Most causes on the internet are brain tumour related, etc. which worries me. He was last born of 5, his mum was in her mid 40's when he was born, I'm thinking this could have something to do with it, but who knows?

I hope he goes in to a doctor to get checked out.  What you are describing sounds like tunnel vision.  I work in a neuro surgical unit.  I have also had been a patient with Chiari.. needing surgery.. Know how hard it is for doctors to diagnose neurological symtoms (symptoms).
