Ok to take birth control pills with a ccm?

by NikkiL338, Feb 25, 2008 07:38PM
Hi,
I'm a 38 y.o. woman diagnosed with a ccm on my brainstem in 2002.  I was 5 months pregnant with my 3rd child at the time, and found out because I had a persistent headache for 3 days and then woke up on the 4th day w/ numbness on my left side - from the top of my head to the tips of my toes.  My doctor's did not recommend any kind of treatment during pregnancy, and after I was followed up with on a regular basis.  My symptoms have fully resolved in the time since, and I have not had a follow up MRI in 2 years.  My question is actually about taking birth control pills.  In the past 2 months I have had irregular uterine bleeding, and my primary care doctor wanted to put me on the pill to regulate my hormones.  However she has had second thoughts because of the ccm, and I am just wondering if there is any evidence that a short term cycle of birth control(2-3 months) would aggravate my condition?  Any information would be appreciated!  Thank you.
