Olfactory halluc...then get very dizzy

For the past year or so, a few times a month, i smell this really weird smell. It's hard to describe, but it always smells the same. Kind of like a burning smell. About my second inhale of this, i get very lightheaded and dizzy, and it seems i black-out for a second or two. It happens a lot while i'm driving and while i'm in bed trying to go to sleep. I've been reading up on seizures and found that a lot of people experience olfactory hallucinations before they have one. I'm wondering if that what that black-out is....a small seizure. If anybody can give me any info, i'd really appreciate. I do intend to speak to my doctor about it, but i would like to go in with more info, so i can really explain what's going on. Thanks!

Burning smells are a classic "aura" or prodrome of the complex partial seizures caused by an area of the temporal lobe, hence temporal lobe epilepsy. You sound as though you are having exactly that. You do need to see your doctor/a neurologist for a ful evaluation and probably a brain MRI +/- EEG, and should also be aware that your insurance and indeed national licensing body will not allow you to drive pending a lot of paperwork and reports.
