I am currently going through my second battle with optic NeuritisGuillain-barre syndrome Optic neuritis Peripheral neuropathy in less than a year. My MRI was negative. When it was ordered it was to be done with contrast. Would it make a difference if it was dont as the doctor ordered? I just don't have the energy to battle them if its not worth it...it will go on thinking I am crazy. But I have no problem taking the MRI again and doin LP if w/contrast might show something different. Thank you very much for you time and patients with me on this.
You need to have an MRI w/contrast. And... if you have a neurologist you need to call him/her and tell them what's happening right now. You need to find the energy to fight, you need to keep strong and keep demanding answers and the right tests be done. It will make a difference in the end. I'm sending some energy your way...

MRI with contrast is a more sensitive test as compared to MRI without contrast. The injected dye makes the lesions more prominent and visible.
The most common cause of optic neuritis is MS followed by viral infections like herpes zoster and lupus and medications.
It will help us to know if the underlying cause has been identified in your case or not as treatment can be planned accordingly. Treatment is mainly steroids and immunosuppressant therapy. If MRI shows an MS lesion the therapy of choice is steroids as they have been found to arrest the progress to full fledged MS.
In most cases visual symptoms return to normal within eight to ten weeks time.
