Optic neuritis

Posted By Aisling McDermott on October 25, 1997 at 09:00:17:

I have had optic neuritis now for about five months.  It began in my
right eye and other MS symptoms developed aroud the same time.  I have
since been diagnosed with MS and my other symptoms have now almost
disapeared following a six week course of Prednisolone.  However prior
to beginning the steriod course my left eye also became affected by
optic neuritis.  Neither eye has improved and my vision is very blurred
and darkened.  I have lost 50% of the vision in the right eye and
am experiencing a degree of colour blindness.  My vision gets worse when
I walk, am tired or try to read white lettering on a black screen.
My neuroligist suggests Avonex which has only recently been approved
in Ireland.  Is this good for optic neuritis or would another drug be
better?  Can I expect my eyes to improve? Any help or advice you can
give me would be greatly appreciated.
