Orthostatic Hypotension

Orthostatic Hypotension

My mother who is 83 years of age has been in the hospital for the past 39 days.  She initially went in the hospital due to some bleeding from her intestinal tract which end up to be diverticulitis.  While she was there she became extremely orthostatic hypotensive with her blood pressure lowering upon standing leading her to faint.  In the past she had exhibited this condition but was able to recover.  Doctors have been trying all the standard methods but to no avail as she has not responded.  A neuro-surgeon who saw her about 3 years ago came to visit her over a week ago. He recommend at that time that she undergo spine surgery due to stenosis which was pressing against her spine and he still recommend she still do it now.  Quite possibly he said she would eventually not walk again if she doesn't. We also thought there may be some correlation with her current condition with nerves being pressed.  She had surgery late last week.  After surgery, she was still hypotensive.   A cardiologist also watch her, suggested we try a heart pacemaker which would monitor and adjust heart rate to increase when she stands.  Another cardiologist with the same team said it won't work then suggesting trying Mestinon instead.  The doctors decided to go with the original plan and placed a pacemaker in her.  A day after the pacemaker was in place, my mom's blood pressure still lowered upon standing and she started to pass out.  The nurse told me afterwards, the doctors asked that she take her medication in the morning prior to getting her up.  I saw that they are now going to give her Mestinon and Midodrine together finally.

If this doesn't work, is there any other options?   I have talked with the hospital's connections group and they said I should think in the back of my mind for now about hospice care due to her condition that other more issues will come up that may end her life in the near future.

I need some input from you all, please.
