You can.  He might presribe physical therapy for you and perhaps some medicine.  And could be he'll want to make sure you haven't gone and ruptured a disk by doing a scan.  Sciatica is what they call your kind of pain, it's the name of the main nerve that goes from the lumbar spine and down into the leg.  Actually, I had a friend who had that, he got a book on yoga exercises and, with practice, his sciatica went away.  But be careful with any movement that hurts a lot, go easy.  I do a lot of stretching myself, lumbosacral pain, it's a good idea to stay flexible when you have a tendency to get pinched nerves or muscle spasms from a bad back.
