PALINOPSIA. RESOLUTION OR TREATMENT.

PALINOPSIA. RESOLUTION OR TREATMENT.

I would like to know if there`s any treatment or resolution with time for people who suffers from palinopsia (abnormal prolonged afterimages, especially on moving targets or hi contrast objects). My wife aqquired this sight problem in both eyes due to side effects of taking clomid. The side effects should have gone away after stoping the medication but it`s been two years now, and it seems permanent. The only written clinical article of 3 similar cases, was written by Dr. Valerie Purvin Arch Ophtalmolol/Vol 113, April 1995. She allready had brain MRI, complete visual tests and lung x-rays, all came negative.
We have allready visited many specialists with no findings.
I thank you in advance for any help.

Thanks for the question. Sorry to hear about your problem - I'm sure it is very frustrating. The Purvin article suggests that the palinopsia could be a perminent problem. I did do a literature search and found an article in the J Clin Psychiatry 58,30, 1997 that reported resolution of palinopsia with tegretol. Wish I had more to offer but check this out with your doctor.
