As an alternative to taking prednisone to relieve Sciatica (not recommended, but often done) an alternative is transdermal DSMO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide), which is an extraordinaly powerful systemic anti-inflammatory. Be adfvised to only use medical grade and to read on the problem with this medication through the internet. DSMO can be dangerous because it will take any substance on the skin or mixed with the liquid into the bloodstream. Thus the skin must be exceptionally clean.

That depends upon the reason you are taking prednisone. The steroid is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Anti-inflammatory drugs include cprticosteroids, cromolyn sodium, or cromolyn-like compounds.

Inhaled corticosteroids are considered safe and are being used for primary therapy for severe and moderate asthma. Oral or intravenous corticosteroida have many long-lasting side-effects.

As an alternative, Chromolyn sodium is available as a capsule, powder mor nebulizer It also comes in a tablet called Gastrocrom. This medicine inhibits alergrm-induced airway narrowing, as well as narrowing after excercise.
