Pseudotumor cerebri is also called benign intracranial hypertension (high pressure within the head).
Some cases have been found to be caused by tick borne infection.

Lyme disease is a multisystemic illness that can affect the central nervous system, causing neurologic and psychiatric symptoms.

So the answer is yes, it may be possible to have mental health symptoms while also having pseudotumor cerebri.
It is possible that both conditions could be caused by tick borne infection.

For more information about mental health symptoms, see:

Wishing you the best,

I am totally with you on this one. I have been diagnosed now for 5 months with pseudo cerbi tumor( better known to me as my brain is freaking out it thinks it has a tumor and it doesn't) and Yes I have had this dicussion with my neurologist just a few days ago. I have been feeling real depressed lately, not wanting to do anything or be bothered by anyone and i have been real agitated lately. The doctors are now telling me that my eyesight is decreasing ( which by the way I was born blind in one of my eyes) so i have been kinda of freaking out lately because there really arent any answers to this illness we have. I am a 30 yrd old healthy female when they do lab work and everything on me my numbers are good its just this crazy illness i have to deal with.  I feel so alone sometimes but its uplifting to actually hear from other people who are going thru some of the same thing. Thank You

To: Dear cindilicious200,
IIH, Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension/PTC, Pseudotumour cerebri does not normally affect life expectancy. The major complications from IIH arise from untreated or treatment-resistant papilledema(Visual disturbances). So there are also surgical treatment procedures which should be discussed with your neurosurgeon.
There is no clear reason for occurence of PTC so mostly it is Idiopathic. The people effected have sizeable symptoms and a strong counsellinng and motivation is required. Every human being is different and the patients should try to live with some residual symptoms, even if treated. Take care!

Well, it's all anecdotal, but for what it's worth--  I have a long miserable history of clinical depression, years before the beginning of my PTC.  Studies now indicate that depression can be caused by concussions earlier in life; also ADD or ADHD can be caused the same way.  I had 3 serious concussions, which could have contributed to the depression.  Whether there's a connection to PTC, well, it's a long time til there are answers to that.  However, any longterm illness or unmanaged pain do cause depression  (ie, the chemistry of the brain changes...)  One of the most helpful things I read was given to me by a good friend who's a doctor.  It was written for cancer patients, but is great for anyone with longterm health issues:  HOW TO GET WELL.  Good luck.
