Pain and light sensation in my left eye

About 2 weeks ago I started experiancing eyr pain when I move my eye left and right up and down. Shortly after I started noticing small blue dots in my vision particularily when I would come out of a dark room into the light room. Few days later i noticed a strong light in the corner of my left eye, the pain when moving my eye was still present. Few days after that i felt pain when i touch my eyeball na dthe light  ( phosphene) moved acros my whole vision so I have difficulty reading,.It looks like I have been staring at the sun for a long time and everything seems very bright. I have difficulty reading because of the strong light in that eye. I went to the hospital and eye MD checked my vision and my eye. He concluded that I have 20% vision loss in that eye and that the eye is healthy. He said that he suspects ocular migraine or optical nerve inflamation (inflammation). He was leaning more towards the migraine he said because my vision loss is not as severe as it should be if I had nerve inflamation (inflammation). I do have migraines sometimes and know that they only last up to 3 days but I have  difficulty excepting that this is ocular migraine that lasts 2 weeks. Please help me I am very scared!

Hi there. Your doctor might be correct in saying that these are ocular migraines rather than optic neuropathy. You also need to rule out multiple sclerosis where you have photophobias and ocular disturbances. In multiple sclerosis there is demyelination of the white matter in brain and the associated neurological sequelae, visual disturbances, limb  weakness, balance and speech impediments,etc. the MRI may show widespread white spots due to plaques in the white matter. Oligoclonal bands in  the cerebrospinal fluid examination are also seen. Consult a neurologist who would analyze your symptoms to arrive at a diagnosis and relevant management. Take care.
