My Mom's quality of life is greatly deminished by constant pain.  She has degenerative spinal disease and has had twelve back surgeries.  The last surgery which put a plate in to stabilize a portion of the lumbar spine failed.  She has also had two knee replacements, a shoulder replacement and recently a hip replacement.  All of these surgeries were very successful and she has no pain in these areas.  But the back pain is now overwhelming.  She was taking a large amount of vicodan a day and the Doc decided to try morphine patches.  This has helped only marginally and are very expensive.
  My question is:
What other kind of pain relief is avaliable that will give her back some quality of life?
Where can my dad and I take her to get help with this problem?
Do you have any suggestions about our options?
  Thanks a lot, Bfletch
