My mother had pain in her neck for some time, now she cant move her right arm. She is 82. What can cause this? I have been reading about strokes but, it says it usually starts in the left arm.Can people have a strokes and it show up in the right arm?
Stroke can start from any side or part of the body. Stroke is a manifestation of reduced blood supply to brain areas. This can happen anywhere in the brain.
Your mother most probably has cervical disc problem. Please consult a neurologist and get an MRI of the neck. The nerves which go to the arms and hands go through the neck. Cervical intervertebral discs may press upon the nerves and lead to paralysis or sensory loss on the affected hand.
