Pain shooting to my head when turning my neck

Pain shooting to my head when turning my neck

Hi

Some times when I turn my neck I get a pain shooting into my head, always cover most of the right hand side.  It quickly goes but I cannot move until it does, and it then leaves a very warm feeling where the pain was.  It is not a deep pain, feel like my scalp only.
I had this since I can remember and always though it was my scalp cracking (like your fingers does) until my mother (a nurse) told me a few weeks ago that this is not possible and I should have it checked out.

What can this possibly be, and is it serious, should I go see a doctor?

Thanks
