Paraesthesia and burning sensations in hip, shoulder, and knee.

Hello,
I am a 26 year old female in general good health.  However, three weeks ago, I noticed a swollen lymph node in my groin, accompanied by "pins and needles" pain in my right hip and knee with a sharp, stabbing feeling on the bottom of my feet and into my toes.  I have felt a general sense of fatigue and malaise over the past three weeks (maybe longer).

The ER checked for blot clots...nothing abnormal.  Over the next few days the lymph node swelling decreased, but the pins and needles and burning pain intensified in my hip, knee, and feet.  However, on the fifth day after first noticing these symptoms, I was pain free.  The following day, the pain returned in my hip and leg but also started to occur in my right shoulder and arm.  I also began to have a very localized headache in the front left side of my skull.  A few days later, I visited a GP, who ordered an MRI of my brain, which came back normal.  The doctor said he doesn't know what is wrong with me...it seems to me like additional tests should be ordered?  He also said that my reflexes seems overly responsive.

My research suggests I am experiencing symptoms similar to Lyme disease.  I had the test but do not know the results as of yet.  However, the doctor said that the results were irrelevant because Lyme disease is rare in this part of Michigan.vvAnother symptom is an irregular menstrual cycle but I had attributed it to starting a new birth control pill.  Most recently my back now has the pain and am extremely fatigued; while walking it is as if every step uses all my energy.

Thank you.

Unfortunately I cannot give you a clinical diagnosis over the internet.
Its not clear whether you still have these symptoms or whether they have disappeared.
there are a broad range of possiblities from a pinched nerve, inflammation of a nerve or nerve root (such as in Lyme) to a demyelinating episode (and possible MS). If the lymph node is connected, an infection with a peripheral nerve complication is more likely - such as a viral infection

the headache does seem to localize generally to the part of the brain involved in right sided sensory or motor symptoms, and an MRI was a good idea to look for a strucutral lesion (which should be excluded)

Reflexes in a young woman can be brisk normally, and are onyl abnormal if there is a difference side to side or clonuc is present (sustained upward jerking of the foot on moving it forcefully upwards)

I suggest seeing a neurologist who can coordinate furhter testing

Good luck

Thanks for your response.  On Sunday, I am getting an MRI of my spine.  I will take your suggestion and see a neurologist.

Thanks again,
A.C.
