Paresthesias: MS or Herpes?

I am 46-years old and have a probable diagnosis of MS (11 years; mild).  I also have a 22-year history of Herpes Simplex I (outbreaks were terrible in the beginning but have been very mild and infrequent for many years), and a 14 year history of Herpes Simplex II (outbreaks have always been extremely mild).  A symptom that I have been experiencing off and on for several years (at least 9 years) is patches of burning sensation on the outer surface of my skin (feels just like a sunburn).  These patches vary in size and intensity, and are often along my upper thigh, buttocks, or waist, but can also be on my cheek (very painful), arm, or other miscellaneous places.  The size of the patch seems to be directly correlated with the length of time that the sensation lasts (usually no more than a 3-5 days).  The size of the patches vary from a few square inches to as large as the entire side of my thigh.  Importantly, there does NOT appear to be a temporal correlation between Herpes outbreaks and these burning sensations.  However, I could be wrong because, again, my Herpes outbreaks (I and especially II) are now so very mild.  I have two questions:  Can Herpes I and/or II cause the symptom I have been experiencing, or is it more likely caused by the MS?  Secondly, if there WAS a temporal correlation between the Herpes outbreaks and the symptom, would that change your opinion?  Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.  I am very appreciative.
